injured bird

What has happened to the bird?

To answer this question, you had to use your inference skills.

Inference is where we use clues and evidence to help us make a decision.

Read the passage below:

In a garden filled with emerald leaves and blossoming trees, four friends, Lily, Max, Mia, and Jake, stumbled upon a wounded bird. Its delicate feathers, which used to be a fluffy blanket of white and gold, were now ruffled and faded. Its chirps echoed like a small choir, the notes shaking with every sound.

With hearts pounding like drums, the children gently held the delicate creature, its heartbeat was a galloping horse in their hands. The four children looked at each other.

How is the bird feeling?

Did you spot the clues that the bird was scared?

When the bird was chirping, the notes were shaking with every sound.

When a creature (or human) shakes or has a shaky voice, it tells us they are feeling scared.

In this activity, you’ll be answering inference questions about a non-fiction text. Remember to think like a detective and look for clues.
