In this activity, we’re going to be looking at conjunctions.
Conjunctions are joining words which link ideas together.
Look at the two simple sentences below.
I am going to test out my new scooter.
I will need to wear a helmet.
We can link these two sentences together using the conjunction so to make one sentence.
I am going to test out my new scooter so I will need to wear a helmet.
The conjunction so is used when the second part of the sentence happens as a result of the first half of the sentence.
This type of conjunction is called a coordinating conjunction.
There are 7 coordinating conjunctions and we can use the acronym FANBOYS to help us remember them all.

So
Which coordinating conjunction would link these two sentences together?
The ice-cream was really tasty.
The brownie was my favourite.
Here, both and and but could join the sentences together but but is the better option.
We use the conjunction but when we’re comparing two different ideas or things.
The ice-cream was really tasty but the brownie was my favourite.
In this activity, you will identify and use coordinating conjunctions. Good luck.
