In this activity, we will be comparing time intervals by reading the time to the nearest five minutes.
What does this mean?
We need to be able to read the time to the nearest 5 minutes and work out time intervals.
Let's have a look at an example of working out a time interval.
How much time has passed between clock A and clock B?
A B
Let's start by reading the time on each clock:
A: 2 o'clock or 2:00
B: Quarter to 3 or 2:45
First of all, no hours have passed as it still hasn't got to 3 o'clock, so we can just count around the minutes.
The minute hand has moved from the 12 to the 9. Let's count around the 5 minute intervals:
That is 45 minutes.
The time interval between these two clocks is 45 minutes.
Let's have a go at some questions!
