In this activity, we will be looking at finding a quarter.
Sometimes we need to find a quarter of a shape or an object.
Here is a tennis ball split into four parts like this:
This tennis ball has been split into four parts but they are all different sizes. For example, part 1 is a lot smaller than part 3.
Quarters are when a whole shape or object has been split into four equal parts.
Equal means exactly the same.
So a tennis ball split into equal parts means four parts that are exactly the same size.
Here is a tennis ball split into equal parts which means it is split into quarters.

Sometimes we need to split objects and shapes into quarters.
This means that we need to split them into four equal groups.
Here we have 20 cats and they have been split into four groups.
We know they have been split into quarters because each group is the same size.
There are five in each group so the 20 cats have been split into four equal groups:
That is how we find a quarter of an amount.
