Worksheet Overview

Contractions are words which have been put together to create one new, shorter word.

We often use contractions when we're talking as it is more conversational.

Let's have a look at some examples:

Do not becomes don't

Can not becomes can't

We are becomes we're

What have you noticed about the contracted words here?

Some letters have been removed, and an apostrophe has been put in their place.

Have a look at the sentence below. Can you spot the mistake in the contraction?

I'am going to a party today!

The words have been put together.

An apostrophe has been added.

BUT, no letters have been removed!

The sentence should say:

I'm going to a party today!

birthday party

Let's have a go at correcting some more mistakes...
