Identify Different Habitats

In this worksheet, students will need to think about what particular plants and animals require and then suggest what sort of habitat they would most likely be found in.

'Identify Different Habitats' worksheet

Key stage:  KS 1

Year:  Year 2 Science worksheets

Curriculum topic:   Living Things and Their Habitats

Curriculum subtopic:   Habitat Needs

Difficulty level:

Worksheet Overview

What is a habitat?

It's 'home'! At least, it is for the plants and animals that live there.

They each need different things and so they live in a place that gives them what they need.

Penguins

A penguin hunts for fish and is designed for cold places, so you will find them in the seas near Antarctica.

In this activity, we'll be thinking about what plants and animals need, and using that knowledge to help us work out the answers to the questions on habitats.

Example

Here is a bird's nest.

Bird often make their nest high up in the trees - why?

Choose the correct answer from below:

 birds nest

a) It is safe up high, away from predators.

b) There is a lovely view.

c) It is near the sun, so it is warm.

Have a look at the options and think about a sensible and practical reason why a bird's nest would be high in the trees.

Although the views would be lovely, birds do not think of this!

It is nearer to the sun, but it can still be very cold up there!

The reason is that it is safer as fewer predators can get up a tree and the nest would be hidden.
