Suffixes are letters which we add to the end of words to change their meaning.
We can add -ly to the end of adjectives to change them into adverbs e.g. sad becomes sadly, surprising becomes surprisingly and bright becomes brightly.
There are a few exceptions to this rule where the spelling is slightly different.
If the adjective ends in -ic, we add -ally e.g. magic becomes magically.
If the adjective ends in -y, we add -ily e.g. angry becomes angrily.
If the adjective ends in -le, we change it to -ly e.g. simple becomes simply.
