When drawing scientific circuits, there are symbols for each component and these are standardised. This means that everyone knows what each symbol represents. 

 

Here is a circuit diagram using standard symbols.

Here, there is a symbol for the battery at the top of the rectangle.

There is the symbol for a closed switch on the left side.

There is a symbol for a buzzer on the right side.

There is a symbol for a bulb at the bottom.

The wires for the circuit are drawn in a rectangle shape.

 

In this activity, we will see different symbols and try to work out what each one is for.
