Worksheet Overview

When we read information texts it is important to be able to summarise what is in them.

This means thinking about the main idea of the text and writing it down.

Look at this text about hedgehogs.

hedgehog

Hedgehogs can live in the countryside or in town and cities and can often be seen in gardens at night. They use dry leaves to make their nests, which are often underneath sheds and outhouses or in bonfires. They even make nests in black plastic rubbish bags. A hedgehog will never sleep outside its nest.

We can summarise this passage by saying that it is about where hedgehogs build their nests.

In this activity, you will practise reading different passages and summarising what they are about.
