In this activity, we're going to be solving problems involving calculating and converting different units of measure.
We'll be using mass, capacity, length, volume and time.
Information that will help - we need to know all of this information.
1,000 g = 1 kg
1,000 ml = 1 l
10 mm = 1 cm
100 cm = 1 m
1,000 m = 1 km
Volume is measured in cubic units (cm³, m³)
60 seconds = 1 minute
60 minutes = 1 hour
24 hours = 1 day
Let's look at an example of the type of question in this activity:
John has 600 g of apples and 250 g of bananas.
What is the total mass of the fruit in kg?
Answer
600 g + 250 g = 850 g
To convert from g to kg, we need to divide by 1,000
850 g ÷ 1,000 = 0.85 kg
The fruit has a mass of 0.85 kg
Now it's your turn - good luck!
