Sequence Sentences Correctly

It is important to sequence sentences in the right order when we are doing a longer piece of writing.

One idea needs to follow another in a logical order so that it makes sense.

This is important when we want to write about something that happened, like a diary entry, or write a short story. 

These events are sequenced in the correct order to make a sandwich:

         Get the bread                               Get the filling                               Sandwich is finished

These numbers are sequenced in the wrong order and do not make sense:

Twenty    ninety    forty    ten    eighty    one hundred    seventy    sixty    thirty   fifty   

These numbers are sequenced in the right order:

Ten    twenty    thirty    forty     fifty     sixty    seventy     eighty   ninety    one hundred

We can sequence short simple sentences with a joining word in the middle. 

Here, the joining word and is used. It makes this sentence longer into a compound sentence.

Can you spot the mistake in this sentence?

They grew into sunflowers and the children planted the seeds.

The sentences are not sequenced in the correct order and do not make sense as the seeds need to be planted before the sunflowers can grow!

This is how the sequence should be.

The children planted the seeds and they grew into sunflowers.
