Read and Understand Rhyming Poems

Rhyming words are words that end with the same sound.

For example:

hand, sand

dog, fog, clog

In this activity, we will read two rhyming poems and answer questions on them. Try reading them out loud or ask someone to read them to you so that you can listen carefully to the ends of each line.

The first poem is from the well-known fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.

Fe, fi, fo, fum,

I smell the blood of an Englishman;

Be he alive or be he dead,

I'll grind his bones to make my bread.

The second poem is one that children used to sing in playground games.

Cobbler, cobbler mend my shoe

Get it done by half past two

Stitch it up and stitch it down

And then I'll give you half a crown.
