Proofreading.
What does that mean? Have you heard that word before?
Proofreading is what we do when we check our work or a partner’s work.
We are looking for spelling mistakes or missing/incorrect punctuation.
We want to make sure that our writing is the best it can be, so that other people can read it and see how great we are at writing!
When we proofread our own work and spot a mistake, we can make those changes or edits so it is even better!
If we proofread someone else’s work, then they can fix it with our help! What a team!
Read this sentence below. What mistakes can you spot?
This iz teh best day ever
Here, we have two spelling mistakes of our tricky words ‘is’ and ‘the’.
After checking spelling, check punctuation because that's important too.
This sentence has a capital letter which is good. Can you spot anything that's missing?
This iz teh best day ever
You got it! We're missing a full stop.
If we wanted, we could improve it by adding an exclamation mark, to show how excited they are, like this:
This is the best day ever!
In this activity, we will be focusing on simple spelling and punctuation errors, so get your proofreading peepers (your eyes!) at the ready and let’s spot some mistakes!
