When you write, it is important that your work makes sense.
One of the ways to do this, is to have tense agreement in your sentences.
Tense agreement is when the verb matches the rest of the sentence. So, if you are telling a story in the past tense, for example, then all of your verbs must be in the past tense. Or if you are talking about three people, but your verb only shows one, this would cause confusion!
When verbs are irregular, it can be even more important to make sure that they are in the correct tense.
