This activity is about using the knowledge we have of percentages to answer real world problems.
You will need a calculator for this.
Percentages are used a lot in our everyday life. From discounts in shop sales to interest in a bank and everything in between!
Let's look at an example of this before we try some questions.
Example
Cereal is sold in boxes of 350 g
This week only, the boxes have been increased to fit an extra 12% free in there.
What is the weight of the special offer boxes?
Answer
An extra 12% means a 12% increase = 112% = 1.12
350 x 1.12 = 392 g
Let's try a mixture of questions now.
Remember that if the question is about money, give your answer to 2 decimal places - that is pounds and pence - unless it is a whole number.
Let's get started.
