Worksheet Overview

When you are ordering positive and negative numbers, the easiest way is to use a number line:

To order with a number line, all we need to do is start at the left and work to the right.

Example:

Put these numbers in ascending order:

3, - 6, 6, 2, -5, 0, 1

If we start at the left:

The first number that appears is - 6

The second number that appears is - 5

The third number that appears is 0

The fourth number that appears is 1

The fifth number that appears is 2

The sixth number that appears is 3

The last number that appears is 6

So we can then write the numbers in order as:

- 6 , - 5 , 0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 6

In this activity, you will order groups of numbers, involving both positives and negatives, into ascending or descending order and select numbers which are in specific locations in the resulting sequences.
