In this activity, we will practise spotting acute and obtuse angles in regular and irregular shapes.
Acute angles are less than 90° and are the smallest type of angle - (that's why they are 'a cute' type of angle!)
Obtuse angles are a bit bigger - more than 90°, but less than 180°
Shapes that contain angles and sides that are all equal are called regular.
Shapes that contain angles and sides that are not all equal are irregular.
Let's try some example questions.
Example 1
Order these angles from smallest to largest.
Answer
C is the smallest angle, followed by A and then B.
The correct order is C, A, B.
Example 2
Carrie draws a rectangle.
Is her shape regular or irregular?
Answer
A rectangle does have four equal angles.
But, it does not have four equal sides.
It is irregular.
Are you ready to have a go at spotting some angles?
