What do you know about negative numbers?

 

Any number below zero is a negative number.

They can be whole numbers (integers), decimals or fractions.

 

Negative numbers always have a minus sign in front, like this:

-8,   -12.6,   -2/3

 

Numbers above zero do not have a sign in front of them.

This is how we know they're not negative.

 

Look at the number line below:

 

 

The smallest numbers are furthest left, so you can see that -2 is bigger than -4
