Identify Correct Standard English for Contractions

In this worksheet, students will practise using the accepted forms of 'doesn't' and 'don't' in standard English.

Worksheet Overview

People in different parts of Britain use the words 'doesn't' and 'don't' in different ways.

Jack doesn't like sprouts.

Jack don't like sprouts.

sprouts

Using words in different ways when we talk to our family and friends is called dialect and it is fine, but when we are writing we need to be able to use standard English.

In standard English these are the forms that are used:

I don't

you don't

he / she / it doesn't

we don't

you don't

they don't

So in standard English the correct sentence would be:

Jack doesn't like sprouts.

In this activity, we will practise using the standard forms of 'doesn't' and 'don't'.
