In this activity, we'll be looking at some timetables and finding out what the information included is telling us.
Let's have a think about when we might use a timetable:
- to find out when we can get a bus, train, aeroplane to go somewhere. Also, to find out what time we will arrive at a destination.
- we often have a timetable at school to let us know what time each lesson is and when it's time for lunch!
- at cinemas so we know what films are on and when they start.
These are just a few examples - you might be able to think of lots more.
Let's have a look at an example.
Here is a bus timetable showing the times that buses leave the bus stops on their route.
Let's answer a couple of questions about this timetable.
Example 1
What time does bus B leave Didcot?
Answer
If we look where bus B and Didcot meet, we can see that the time is 10:45.
Example 2
How long does it take for bus E to travel from Oxford to Didcot?
Answer
First, find bus E, then look at the time between Oxford (11:00) and Didot (11:30)
The difference is 30 minutes.
It takes 30 minutes for bus E to travel from Oxford to Didcot.
Top Tip:
Read the question and the information in the table carefully.
Now, it's your turn.
