There are four types of sentence:
Commands
Questions
Statements
Exclamations
We use each one to show different feelings and share information.
Commands give us an instruction, or tell us to do something. They usually have a full stop at the end, but sometimes they have an exclamation mark, to show emphasis!
Like this:
Whisk the eggs and mix them with the flour.
Don’t let go of the rope!
Questions ask for information. They need an answer or information and they must have a question mark at the end ?
Like this:
Can I go to the pool later?
Statements give us information or tell us something, and they have a full stop at the end.
Like this:
On Tuesday I go to art club.
Exclamations show we are excited, surprised or emphasising something.
Like this:
What a lot of money!
This is the best day ever!
In this activity, we will practise recognising the four different sentence types.
Many of the sentences will not have their punctuation mark in this activity, so you will need to read the sentence to work out what type it is, not just look at the punctuation!
Good luck, super sentence spotter!
