Did you know that a prism is a 3 dimensional shape (3D)?

Prisms have flat faces. The shape of the face is often the clue to helping identify 3D shapes.

For example: the shape above is a triangular based prism. It has triangular faces.

Not all 3D shapes are prisms. Some have curved faces, like this sphere.

All 3 dimensional shapes, as the name suggests, have three dimensions:  a length, a width and a height.

Some prisms don't use the shape of their faces in their 3D name - such as a cube, or cuboid.

You could be asked to identify a 3D shape from a written description.
