When learning about electrical circuits, we need to understand the terms conductor and insulator.
This activity is all about insulators.
Electrical insulators are like protective shields that keep electricity from flowing where we don't want it to go.
These insulators are made of materials that don't let electricity pass through them easily, such as rubber, plastic, glass and wood.
So when we are using wires or other electrical parts, we put insulators around them to make sure the electricity stays on the right path and doesn't travel where it shouldn't.
You can see this clearly here with the plastic cover on the plug socket and plug, and rubber coating on the wires.
Insulators help keep us safe and make sure our electrical devices work the way they are supposed to.
Let's learn more about insulators in the following questions.
