Halve Simple Decimals

In this activity, we will learn how to halve simple decimals by dividing them by 2.

Example

Find half of the number 0.51

0.51 ÷ 2 =  __________

Answer

Set out a division calculation but fill in an extra zero so that 0.51 becomes 0.510

Now you can carry out the calculation as a normal division using the bus-stop method.

Don't forget to write a decimal point on the roof of the bus stop, directly above the decimal point in the calculation.

So half of 0.51 is 0.255
