How much do you think you know about rocks? Lots? Not too sure?
Well, you're in the right place both to find out more and to test out what you know.
You see, wherever you look, there are rocks.
Sure, they may not all be natural rock, but so much of the world around us is based on rocks: bricks and concrete, roads and pavements, etc..
Of course, there's an awful lot of the natural stuff out there too: rocks and stones in your garden or the park, pebbles on the beach, cliffs and mountains - so much to see and learn about!
In this activity, you're going to have the chance to check out what you know and learn a little bit more.
Did you know that you can test rocks to find out if they're:
- hard or soft (say by using something to scratch them with, or tapping them with a hammer)
- smooth or crumbly (by looking at and touching the surface of the rock)
- what colour they are
- whether they're permeable or impermeable (that's whether they allow water to soak into them or not)
So much to explore! Shall we get started?
