'Examine Skeletons and Muscles' worksheet

Key stage:  KS 2

Year:  Year 3 Science worksheets

Curriculum topic:   Animals, including Humans

Curriculum subtopic:   Skeletons and Muscles

Difficulty level:

Worksheet Overview

You'll already know that your skeleton is your scaffolding - it's what your body depends on to give it shape. But, did you know that without muscles being attached to the bones of your skeleton, you couldn't move at all?

This is what the muscles of the human body look like, under the skin:

Human musculature

Have you ever come across the children's books, or cartoon series, "Funnybones"?

Funnybones

In "Funnybones", the skeletons (including a dog skeleton!) run, walk, jump and dance - all without muscles! Of course, it's a cartoon, so you can do what you like, but in real life a pile of bones cannot move on their own! Without muscles to pull bones into position, there is no movement.

Let's use this activity to expand and develop our understanding of your skeleton and how the bones and muscles work together. Enjoy!
