'Pride and Prejudice' is densely packed with incisive and memorable quotes. It's impossible to pull out a handful and feel that we've covered a four-hundred-page novel!
Rather, it's more helpful to develop the skill of evaluating how Austen has conveyed her characters, her plot, and her themes. We do this by looking at her word choice and her writing style.
In this way, any extract that's presented in an exam will be a rich source of examples of the wit, irony, precise diction, repartee in dialogue, humour and sarcasm, that make up Austen's masterpiece!
Becoming familiar with these terms, and being able to identify examples of their use, will allow you to write about the novel with confidence.
