When learning about electricity, there are words that describe the different components of an electrical circuit, and symbols to show these components in drawings.
Imagine you are building a simple circuit for a toy car that lights up and moves forward when a switch is turned on.
Here is the simple circuit with a battery, bulb, motor and switch.
The battery is the power and provides electrical energy for the other components - the bulb and the motor.
The bulb is connected to the battery with wires and lights up when the switch is turned on. The bulb could be placed at the front of the toy car to act as headlights.
The motor is what makes the car move forward. When the electricity from the battery reaches the motor, it causes the middle part to move. This is connected to the wheels of the car and therefore moves the car forward.
The switch controls the flow of electricity. When the switch is off, the circuit is broken and the electricity can not flow. When the switch is on the circuit is complete and this allows the bulb and the motor to work.
