Many people find decimals tricky, and many others feel nervous around division.
Put the two together and what do we get?
Let's have a go at sorting out some of these worries in this activity.
We are going to look at decimals with one decimal place. This means that there is only one digit after the decimal point, for example, 27.6, 415.9 or 347.5
To divide a number with one decimal place by a single-digit number, we need to set out a division calculation using the bus-stop method and then divide normally.
The decimal points will remain in line vertically.
Example
Work out 362.5 ÷ 5
Answer
362.5 ÷ 5 = 72.5
That wasn't so tricky, was it?
