In this activity, we're going to be converting a range of measures. This may include using up to 3 decimal places.
Things we need to know - it is good to learn this information so that you can recall it when needed.
10 mm = 1 cm
100 cm = 1 m
1,000 m = 1 km
1,000 g = 1 kg
1,000 ml = 1 l
60 seconds = 1 minute
60 minutes = 1 hour
24 hours = 1 day
7 days = 1 week
356 days = 1 year (there are actually 365¼ days in a year)
You might want to remind yourself of how we multiply and divide by multiples of 10 - all digits shift left or right and the decimal point never moves!
Let's have a look at an example of the type of question you might be asked:
Fred has a litre of juice. He drinks 260 ml.
How much juice is left - give your answer in litres.
Answer
1 l = 1,000 ml
1,000 - 260 = 740 ml
740 ml = 0.74 l
0.74 litres remain.
Now it's your turn.
