Classify Polygons

In this activity, we will look at different polygons!

A polygon is - A 2D shape bounded by straight sides

The smallest 2D shape we can make which is bounded by straight sides is a triangle

If we add a side, as you know we have a quadrilateral.

5 sides gives us a pentagon.

6 sides is a hexagon.

7 sides is a heptagon.

8 sides is an octagon.         9 sides is a nonagon.              10 sides is a decagon etc .........

You will notice that there are different types of shape within each category.

They are easy to remember as they are: 

Regular - These have the same size angles and the same length sides.

Irregular - Different size angles and different length of sides.
