In this activity, we will be putting numbers in order, starting with the smallest and ending with the largest. This is called ascending order.
Think of it as ascending a mountain or a staircase - it means going up!
Example
Put the numbers in ascending order.
Answer
1194 is the smallest because 1194 has the smallest thousands digit.
Next we compare 3987 and 3252. They both have a 3 in the thousands place, so we look at the hundreds place and see that 3252 is smaller than 3987.
Lastly, 4447 is the biggest because it has the largest thousands digit.
Answer: 1194, 3252, 3987, 4447
