In this activity, we will be looking at 3D shapes and representing them as a set of 2D shapes.
If an engineer designed a new car, he would not just send a picture of it to the factory with a note to 'Make this!'
The factory would need lots of details in order to make it.
Likewise, an architect could not just send a picture of a building he had designed and ask the building company to 'build it!' without any details.

They would need to see a drawing of the design of anything from each direction so it could be made correctly!
For example, here is a box with the dimensions given:
The front face is called the front elevation and the sizes are shown.
The side face is called the side elevation and the sizes are shown:
The top is called the plan and the sizes are shown:
This is a very simple design, but it shows how we would be able to see all around the design and the sizes needed.
